Ridge Cap Repair in Martville, NY

Ridge cap repair replaces the shingles that run along the peak of a roof where two slopes meet. Martville, NY Storm Damage Roof Repair does this work across Martville, NY, and the ridge is the first place we look after a wind event.

The reason is exposure. The ridge sits at the highest point of the building and takes wind from both sides, so uplift pressure there is greater than anywhere else on the roof. Ridge caps are also individually fastened rather than interlocked with their neighbours, which means each one relies on its own nails and its own seal.

When ridge caps go, water enters at the single worst point on the structure. It runs straight down both slopes on the underside of the decking and can show up as staining a long way from the peak.

Modern ridge work uses purpose-made cap shingles rather than cut three-tab pieces. Cut caps crack at the fold, particularly in cold weather, and a fair number of the ridge failures we attend were built that way originally. Where a roof has ridge vent, storm damage often breaks the vent as well as the caps, and replacing one without checking the other leaves the job half done.
